San Destin, FloridaPelicans in Formation
Hurricane Ida swept through New Orleans, forcing all its residents to evacuate as the city was left without water or electricity for two weeks. Fortunately, San Destin called to us like a beacon of hope. There, Pelicans soared overhead, putting on an airshow that was mesmerizing to watch. It was a beautiful distraction from the storm devastation back home. |

Blue Ridge Mountain Birds
Charlottesville, Virginia, offers a charming haven for bird lovers, especially those enchanted by the vibrant presence of bluebirds and the secretive songs of gray catbirds. Eastern Bluebirds, with their vivid blue plumage and rusty red breasts, bring a splash of color to the rolling Piedmont landscape, often seen perched on fence posts or flitting through open fields and meadows. Meanwhile, Gray Catbirds add a touch of mystery to the local soundtrack, hiding in dense shrubs and thickets while mimicking other birds and occasionally letting out their signature mew-like call. Together, these feathered residents add life, color, and song to the serene natural backdrop of Charlottesville and the beautiful grounds of Thomas Jefferson's University of Virginia. |
Bangor to BostonFrom Feathers to Fixtures: My Accidental Tour of New England Rooftops
I hit the road from Bangor, Maine to Boston, camera in hand, fully prepared to capture the majestic birds of the East Coast. What did I find? Absolutely zero birds. Not even a pigeon. So, like any quick-thinking wildlife photographer... I pivoted to weathervanes. Because hey, at least they hold still, and who knew the variety that I would be able to capture. Moral of the story: when birds bail, shoot weathervanes. |
